North West Youth Alliance
Preston North End 0 Macclesfield Town 1 (Saturday 29th March 2008)
The Silkmen dominated the weekend's fixture at Preston North End but had to be content with just a solitary strike from in-form Christian Millar (pictured) in a 1-0 scoreline that sees the side keep the pressure on the sides above them in the North West Youth Alliance. It was a result manager John Askey thought his team deserved but one that could have been better.
"Again the conditions weren't the best on a very boggy pitch, which made passing the ball very diffcult," explained John. "But we stuck to the task and didn't let our heads drop and finally got the goal our play warranted. When you have had the better of a game but failed to score you do start to get a bit nervous but fair play to the lads. All we can do it keep winning our games and with Carlisle due to play Blackpool today we might just be in with a chance if the results go our way."
And to cap a great day for John, the team then returned to the Moss Rose to witness former team mate Shaun Brisley score his first two senior goals of his career. "Everyone is delighted for Shaun. He's done really well and he's all the motivation the rest of the lads need to keep their heads down and continue working hard. The gaffer has shown he's not prepared to turn to the youngsters and there's no reason why several of them shouldn't be emulating Shaun next season if all goes well.
