Chairman's thought
Rob Bickerton's latest thoughts on the club...
"Tuesday night at Rotherham was great for me because having been Chairman for the last three years I realise that I had forgotten how much fun it is to just be a fan in the stand. When you go to a game in the capacity of Chairman you have to meet and greet and watch the game from the director's box, which is part of the job. However, due to the building works at Millmoor there was no boardroom or director's box so I stood with our fans in the away end. Whilst there was only a hundred or so who travelled to the game, they chanted and cheered so much that our recently appointed Finance Manager, who has never been to an away match before, was amazed by their vociferous support. It made me realise that the reason I became Chairman was because I am a fan and last night made me recognise that I must not lose sight of that no matter what."
"No one can deny that our fans are fantastic. However, unfortunately there are significantly less of them now than there were last season and at home games we are only averaging a crowd of 1,500 home fans. They really do support the team, but the fact of the matter is that we budgeted for the same number as last year. At the football club we run to very strict budgets and our expenditure is geared to income and a significant part of this income is the gate. In the coming weeks and months we will be undertaking measures to re-align the budget. I ask that you the fans do everything you can to support the Club both from the terraces and by taking advantage of the other services that the Club has to offer."
