A dream come true
New signing Neil Harvey has had his heart set on a career in professional football from an early age and those dreams were realised this week when he signed a one year deal with the Silkmen.
Although born in London, the 24 year old moved to Barbados as a youngster, returning when he was 21 to pursue his ambition of playing in the Football League.
"Football is something I have always loved and the chance to play in the Football League was my main motivation for returning to England," said an excited Neil when we spoke with him earlier today.
"I've had trials at several clubs including the likes of Fulham and West Ham and more recently Morecambe were rumoured to be interested in me. But nothing ever came of them so I just kept my head down and carried on scoring goals for Retford in the hope that someone would eventually give me the chance."
"And that's why I jumped at the chance to join Macclesfield. Keith got in touch last week and within the space of seven days it has all been sorted. To be honest I am still in a slight state of shock but once the reality has sunk in I know I will be looking forward to the opportunity I have been given."
"The gaffer has a track record of plucking 'unknowns' from non-league football and I hope I can justify the faith he has shown in me. I realise it is going to be a big jump but I am confident lad and will be looking to continue scoring goals. Each year I always set my target at 20 goals, something I have managed to achieve in the last three seasons for Retford. And I see no reason why I shouIdn't set myself the same target again as I believe you have to challenge yourself no matter what level you are playing at. I've only played part-time in the past so being able to concentrate full-time on my game and fitness should allow me to develop as a player."
"Of course there is going to be a settling in process but I will be moving to Macclesfield as I am determined to give this all I have got. The club has got some quality goalscorers in the squad, players I can learn from and hopefully form a good partnership with as we look to mount a challenge on the play-offs."
"My four appearances for Barbados have given me the taste and I just can't wait for the season to get started. In terms of what the fans can expect from me, well I suppose the easiest way to sum myself up is that I know where the goal is. I tend to play as and out and out centre forward and most of my goals are from within the box. So a bit of everything really!"
