With just five players contracted to the club for next season manager Keith Alexander faces a busy time over the next few weeks as he looks to shape his squad for the challenge of the 2008/09 campaign.

Those five players are Martin Gritton, Francis Green, Danny Thomas, Terry Dunfield and Jordan Hadfield who spent most of the this season out on loan with the MK Dons. Deciding which of their colleagues will be offered a new deal to extend their stay at the Moss Rose is the task in hand but Alexander says he will not be rushed into making a decision.

"A lot of clubs have already announced their retained list and by implication those they are letting go. But I wanted to take this week to finalise my thoughts after speaking to Gary and the board. So it won't be until Friday until I have one to ones with all the players to let them know the situation," explained Keith.

"The lads, including those signed on loan who have now all returned to their clubs, did really well for me but it is inevitable given our final league position that I will be looking to make changes and bring in a fair few fresh faces for next season. Some may already have offers in the bag but either way I am confident that come August the squad will be stronger and better geared up to the challenge of League Two."

As in previous seasons the players remain contracted to the club until the end of June. However those out of contract this year have been able to begin discussions with other clubs since January. Those offered new terms have a short period of time in which to accept or turn down the deal put to them after which time the contract offer is technically withdrawn.
