Pitch highly commended!
Moss Rose Head Groundsman Mark Mathers yesterday learnt that he had been pipped at the post for the coveted title of League Two Groundsman of the Year. The accolade this year went Richard Barnett of Shrewsbury Town, the other team in contention for the title being the MK Dons.
This award is based on marks given after each game by the referee and the opposition manager, and an inspection by Dr Stephen Baker, an expert on sports turf. Mark was naturally disappointed not to come out on top but commented yesterday, "Congratulations to Richard at Shrewsbury on winning the award. He's obviously done a great job this year on the new surface at the New Meadow. I'm pleased though that the hard work we put in on the Moss Rose pitch has been recognised. I'd also like to thank my team of Liam, Brad and Jimmy for helping me keep the pitch well up to scratch this year".
