Macclesfield Town is pleased to announce that it has applied to rejoin the Pontin's League for reserve teams starting in 2008/09.  We have not had a formal reserve team for several seasons now, but new manager Keith Alexander and the board think it is the right time to re-introduce a second string team.

"For me it makes sense to play competitive reserve games"  said the manager today, "not only for the players who are not getting regular football in the first team, but for triallists as well, and to help bridge the gap between youth football and the Football League."

Chief Executive Patrick Nelson added "We have made our application to the Pontin's League now and we hope it will be successful.  If it is, we will be placed in one of the three regional divisions of the League.  Our home games will be played at the Moss Rose, and although we have yet to fix times, Pontin's League rules state that at least half of our home games need to kick off at 7pm.  We are quite likely to go for 2pm kickoffs for the rest of the games."

Look out for more details during the closed season.
