The Silkmen Poet Laureate!
Posted on: Wed 02 Apr 2008
On the letters page of this week's Macclesfield Express, there is a poem submitted by someone who apparently came to see us for the first time against Shrewsbury Town. With the permission of the paper, we have reproduced the poem here, and we would like to know who our budding poet laureate is. If he or she would like to unveil themselves by calling us in the office, we will give them two tickets for one of our two remaining fixtures, against Mansfield Town or Chesterfield. Don't be shy, let us know who you are!
(PS we know that under 12's rather than under 10's get in free, but we didnt want to change the poem...)
Come to Macclesfield Town FC
Children under ten are free
Buy a programme, pies and tea
From ladies smiling cheerfully
Children under ten are free
Buy a programme, pies and tea
From ladies smiling cheerfully
Happy fans with rosy faces
Cheer when players take their places
But then we wear a serious frown
As our team goes one goal down
Hurrah! We're level with a volley
Scored by midfield maestro Tolley
And then a goal from Franny Green
Bursts the net - the best I've seen
And ladies smile and wave and flirt
As Mr Green removes his shirt
Displaying muscles firm and hard
The ref shows him a yellow card
But we don't care because we've won
This is our moment in the sun
Is it this good every game?
My life will never be the same!
Cheer when players take their places
But then we wear a serious frown
As our team goes one goal down
Hurrah! We're level with a volley
Scored by midfield maestro Tolley
And then a goal from Franny Green
Bursts the net - the best I've seen
And ladies smile and wave and flirt
As Mr Green removes his shirt
Displaying muscles firm and hard
The ref shows him a yellow card
But we don't care because we've won
This is our moment in the sun
Is it this good every game?
My life will never be the same!
