Just over a month shy of his eighteenth birthday, Shaun Brisley was the toast of the town on Saturday following his two goal performance against Accrington Stanley. And to cap his afternoon off, the youngster deservedly picked up the 'Man of the Match' award.

The only problem is his prize; a bottle of champagne will have to be put on ice for a few weeks until he is old enough to drink it!

"It has all happened so quickly for me," explained Shaun when we caught up with him after training today. "A month ago I was just one of the youth team with aspirations of making the fringes of the first team. The new gaffer obviously saw something in me and it has been great to be involved and hopefully repay him for the confidence he has shown in me."

"Saturday's game against Accrington just really capped everything off. Up until this season you could count on one hand the number of goals I have scored in my career. But I've managed four I think for the youth team and to follow that up with two in one game for the first team is a dream come true."

"At half-time the manager and the lads were egging me on to get a hat-trick. And I did have one really good chance which I should have done better with. Ironically it was on my right foot which would have made it the perfect hat-trick (i.e. left foot, right foot, header) but I snatched at it. But I will settle for two especially as it helped us pick up a much needed three points."

"I didn't really have chance to celebrate the goals as before I could react I was mobbed by the lads. Not that I would be doing anything silly like Franny and taking my top off!!"

"Hopefully there are more goals to come and I can perfect my celebrations over the coming months. The gaffer is always encouraging us to get forward and get good quality balls into the right areas. And that was the case on Saturday. I just happened to be in the right place at the right time. It would have been nice if the first had been a 30 yard screamer but I'm not complaining."

"I am also enjoying the new role of right wing-back. I've always played centre half but whilst there's more running to be done on the flanks, there is more license to get forward and that's been something I have taken to."

"The spirit in the camp is fantastic at the moment. We know there is still a lot of hard work to do. But we go to Wrexham full of confidence knowing that if we can pull off another good result there we are one step closer securing our safety."
