Macclesfield Town's 500th league game was celebrated in the best possible manner this afternoon, the Moss Rose faithful witness to a comprehensive 3-0 victory over Barnet. The result, the best of the season, was never in doubt once Danny Thomas stooped low to head home from a Neil Ashton cross on 21 minutes.

Four minutes before half time Ashton turned from provider to scorer when his free kick cross come shot evaded everyone and snuck into the corner. And then to cap the day off, Francis Green produced another wonder goal just after the break to secure a much needed three points.

With Mansfield losing, and fellow rivals Notts County and Wrexham picking up just one point the Silkmen are now 8 points clear of the relegation zone and looking to stretch this further with the visit of Accrington Stanley to the Moss Rose on Saturday.
