One of the most consistent performers for the Silkmen in recent week has been Jon Brain. The keeper has been in top form, pulling off a string of fine saves, none better than in the week when diving spectacularly to save a penalty from Dagenham's Dave Rainford.

Many felt it proved the turning point as the team grew visibly in confidence and recorded their first win for new boss Keith Alexander.

"We knew after Saturday how important the game at Dagenham was going to be," explained Jon. "Whilst a lot of people had been very complimentary about my performances against Notts County and Brentford my overriding feeling was one of disappointment as we had only managed to pick up just the one point."

"We've been playing a new system since the new gaffer arrived and we've looked more solid at the back with the two centre halves and a sweeper. As a goalie I am not really affected by the change but clearly benefit from the results. And its great to have pulled off a few good saves when called upon."

"My record against penalties hasn't been that good. So it was great to save the one on Tuesday. I don't really believe in having a system and to some extent it is a lot to do with luk. However when their player was preparing to take the kick I just felt he was shaping up to put it to my left."

"You then just have to be positive and I was lucky that my instinct was right and I was able to pull off the save. It was a gamble but one that paid off. That and Franny's goal certainly helped the journey pass quicker especially when Simmo told us all the other results. He was on his mobile straight after the game and came over to us when we were warming down."

"The last time we won was at Morecambe, only that day all the other sides had picked up a result. So from an immediate high after the whistle we were brought a little back down to earth. However it was different on Tuesday and we just now need to ensure we make the most of it and pick up another win against Shrewsbury at the weekend."

"It will be great to catch up with Kevin McIntyre again. I don't know if he is their appointed penalty taker but if he is I just hope he doesn't get the chance to take one! That said I know where he tends to place them so I'll be quick to remind him!"
