One of the big plusses of the January Transfer Window has been the arrival of Ryan Cresswell. The big defender joined us on loan for the rest of the season from Sheffield United and is determined to make the most of his time at the Moss Rose.

Ryan Cresswell

So how did the move come about?

I had been out on loan with Rotherham and most recently Morecambe. But I knew after just a few weeks at Christie Park that it wasn't right for me. It wasn't anything to do with the club it was just the travelling involved. I was looking at a round trip of 240 miles each day from Rotherham where I live and it proved too much really.

Brian Kidd knows Asa very well and he mentioned I was available and it happened pretty quickly from there. In fact I nearly came before going to Morecambe. I am just delighted to be here now though.

First impressions?

I am really enjoying it despite the disappointments of the last two home games. The lads have made me feel very welcome and it is nice to come to a side that wants to play football. And the travelling is certainly more manageable. I just wish it would it would stop raining and I could appreciate the scenery a bit more.

You mentioned the recent home games! What was the feeling like after the game on Tuesday?

It was a weird feeling. We were clearly upset and disappointed as for the second game running we had come away with nothing. I couldn't really believe it if truth be known. After picking up five great points away from home against promotion candidates we've somehow managed to throw away six points at home against sides around us in the league. No disrespect to Bradford or Lincoln but we really should have won both of those games given the chances we created. It can't go on forever though and we are determined to put this behind us and make sure we win next time out.

Perhaps you can help the forwards out after your goal against Darlington?

I don't think so but it was pleasing to see it go in the back of the net. And incredibly it went exactly were I aimed it!

Shame about the own goal!

Well funny you should say that but I can confirm the ball didn't come off me! Gritts admitted after the game he got the last touch which was good of him. However driving back on the bus there was my name in lights on Sky having scored at both ends! I suppose it made for good headlines though (ie hero to villain etc) but irrespective of who did or didn't it was just a shame we couldn't hold on for the win.

What about this weekend and a return to Morecambe?

It's an important game for us especially as they beat us the other week. That was just before I had joined but it would be sweet to go up there and get some revenge.

What are your hopes for the rest of the season after that then?

Well from a team point of view I think realistically we should set our sites on mid-table. We need to get away from the bottom pretty quickly. But I reckon it won't be ltoo ong before we give someone a good thumping as I certainly think we are playing well enough to do so.

As for me, well I am out of contract in the summer and I know I am in the shop window. But it is just great to be getting regular football and I am appreciative of the opportunity Ian, Asa and the club have given me. I certainly feel stronger and am working hard on things like my fitness and diet. They go hand in hand really. It's no secret that I am a big lad. But I don't want to be labelled as your typical big bloke at the back who can just head the ball and lump it up field. There's more to my game than that but I recognise I have to work hard to maintain my level of performance week in week out.
