JAMES Ashmore has become the victim of Bryan Robson's promotion campaign at Sheffield United and could not resist the chance to join us on loan from Sheffield United.

James Ashmore

The young midfielder has been with United since he was 10 and for the self-confessed Blades fan it is still his dream to be a regular in Robson's side, but for the time being he is happy to be just getting regular football at Moss Rose.

"At the start of the season at United I was involved in the first team squad and I have been on the bench a few times, but I have not really been able to break into the team this season," said Ashmore.

"Obviously being a Sheffield lad and a Blades fan it is a dream of mine, but because they are trying to get promotion, Bryan Robson is bringing in experienced players and there is not a lot of room for youngsters right now.

"And I have got to think about furthering my career. There comes a point when everyone has to do that. I don't want to be playing reserve team football all the time. That is why I jumped at the chance to come to Macclesfield.

Ashmore made his debut in the victory over Peterborough and has settled in quickly and although he has only signed initially for a month, he would love to do well enough to extend that until the end of the season if possible.

There is talk of Ashmore being offered a new contract at United, depending on what happens over the remainder of the season at Bramall Lane and he added: "Bryan Robson wants me to stay and we were starting to talk about things, when it was decided to leave it until the end of the season."

Until he hears otherwise, Ashmore is determined to throw himself into helping us generate enough points to push up the table and has guaranteed to be doing all he can to drive things from his midfield role.

"The fans can expect 100% effort from me. I love the challenge of coming to Macclesfield and I am really enjoying it so far. The debut couldn't have gone better and I know it won't always be as easy as that.

"But I will be doing everything I can to get up and down the pitch and to get on the ball and try to make things happen while I am here. Everyone has made me very welcome and things couldn't be better at the moment."
