It was a new look line up for the Silkmen as there were seven changes to the side that lost at the weekend.

It was the home side who made the first attack, when after good work down the left the ball was whipped in only to be blocked by Jimmy McNulty and then cleared away by Dave Morley. That was a pattern which took place throughout out the game. It was the home team who kept pushing forward early on and it took a good save from Silkmen keeper Jonny Brain to stop Wrexham's Matt Done shot flying in.

The Silkmen took a while to settle into the game, their first attempt coming after winning a free kick on the right hand side.It was curled in by Danny Thomas' left foot and met by Martin Gritton but the front man saw his header hit the outside of with former Silkmen keeper Anthony Williams stranded.

After a period of stalemate the home side almost scored out of the blue, the ball picked up by Mike Carvill who took on his marker down the right and his shot/cross looped over Jonny Brain and hit the bar. The loose ball then fell to a red shirt and the resulting shot was off cleared away on the line when looking goal bound.

With both sides struggling to assert themselves the home side's best chance of the half came after Martin Gritton lost the ball in the centre circle leaving a 3 on 2 but again the shot was saved by Brain as he rushed out from his line.

The Silkmen looked to a won a penalty late on in the half when a ball over the top was chased by Michael Husbands but at the same time off his line came the Wrexham keeper and as Williams slid for the ball Husbands went down as well, the referee blew his whistle but only to award a free kick to the home side and book Michael for diving. Not long after the half time whistle went.

Into the second half and it was the home side that started the brighter and it required some last ditch tackles by McNulty and Morley to prevent the opening goal of the game. For all the home side's pressure in the first ten minutes of the second half they never caused Jonny Brain much trouble. The Silkmen made a sub with Martin Gritton being replaced by Gareth Evens.

After the substitution Macc got more into the game and had a good chance when a looped pass towards the back post was put across the goal by Thomas and sliding in at the other post was Husbands. His effort just missed the goal and went out for goal kick.

The Silkmen had the woodwork to thank again when after a great run by Matt Done down the right he cut inside his marker Regan and hit a rocket of a shot which stuck the underside of the cross bar bounced down and hit the line and finally cleared away. The Silkmen made their second sub moments later with Thomas being replaced by Izak Reid.

Macc started to get a strong grip of the game and won a corner which was whipped in by Simon Wiles but was cleared to edge of box then the referee blow his whistle and pointed to the spotafter a Wrexham player had been adjudged to ofhandled the ball. It was Husbands who ran over to collect the ball wanting to take it, he then put the ball down waited for the whistle and hit it straight down the middle and into the back of the net. 1-0.

Soon after the home side where down to 10 men after a foul by Chris Llewellyn resulted in a booking for the player, who then looked to have said something as the referee then pulled out a straight red card. The sending off seemed to take to game to a higher level and the home side started to really push forward and looked dangerous on the attack. A shot from Silvio Spann was blocked and went out for corner, from the resulting corner the ball was cleared of the line by Jordan Hadfield. The home side continued to put pressure on the Silkmen goal with a number of shots just going over the bar or wide.

Into injury time, of which there was to be three minutes of, a ball down the right left found Wrexham sub Michael Proctor who was tackled by James Jennings but sadly for Proctor he didn't like the tackle and stamped on Jennings' back as he was getting up. With the referee right next to the incident he pulled out a straight red card for the Wrexham player. JJ was then replaced by Matthew Flynn. Soon after the final whistle blew and the Silkmen had won their second game of the season and will now face local rivals Stockport at home in round two.
