Having been knocked out of the cup last week the Silkmen travelled to Notts County looking to put their poor display behind them and start improving their league position. With a 4-5-1 formation the Silkmen looked to win the battle of midfield which they did in the end as the Silkmen fought hard for a well deserved 1-0 win.

The Silkmen had a chance within the first minute after Martin Gritton won the ball and laid it off for Levi Reid who ran with the ball towards County goal? with Francis Green making a great run all the had to do was slot it though but Reid held onto it a bit too long giving Notts time to win the ball back.

Notts had a chance a minute later but Lawrie Dudfield's shot was over the bar and didn't trouble Tommy Lee. The Silkmen had to make a very early sub after Martin Gritton fell to the ground after jumping for a header - he tried to play on for a few minutes but was in obvious pain so he limped off and on in his place came Gareth Evans.

The home side almost took the lead when a cross down the left missed everyone in the six yard box. Waiting at the back post was Gary Silk who cut back inside his marker onto his left foot, but out rushed Tommy Lee who made himself big and was able to block the shot with his chest and the danger was then cleared by on loan Sean Hessey making his debut in blue and white.

The Silkmen's first corner of the game came in the 18th minute but the ball was easy for County to clear and the ball found its way quickly up to the other end and at the feet of Andy Parkinson who played a long ball which was only flicked on by Luke Dimech and it was left to Kevin McIntyre to head clear just beating a County head to the ball. The first shot on target for Macc came in the 26th minute when Jamie Tolley's shot from 18 yards out was straight at Kevin Pilkington.

The Silkmen had another good attack when Francis Green won the ball on half way and ran down the left, he played the ball inside to Danny Thomas who collected it on his right foot, then cut back onto his left which gave Adam Tann time to close him down and Danny's shot was blocked.

Just before half time the Silkmen made their second sub when Terry Dunfield limped off holding his hamstring and on came Adam Murray to take his place in the midfield.

Into the second half and before a ball was kicked the Silkmen used their final sub with Sean Hessey not coming out for the second half after sustaining a rib injury - Jimmy McNulty taking his place. The home side had the first chance of the half with a great run down the left by Myles Weston who cut inside Carl Regan and played a ball towards the back post. Craig Lindfield controlled the ball well but McIntyre did just enough to put him off and gain a goal kick.

The Silkmen came close when sub Adam Murray collected the ball on the edge of the box and his turn and shot went over and into the stand where Macc's supporters were gathered. The Silkmen had Tommy Lee to thank for the score staying level when he tipped over a fierce shot from Krystian Peace which was heading in. There was a strong penalty shout when Green put Danny Thomas though and he ran into the area - as he was about to shoot in came a tackle from Adam Tann who just won the ball, leaving Danny in a heap on the ground.

As the Silkmen kept up the pressure it was no surprise when they took the lead just after the hour mark. It came after good work by Thomas who found Francis Green who controlled the ball on his chest, turned his marker and from fifteen yards out on his left foot hit the ball like a rocket into the bottom hand corner giving Kevin Pilkington no chance to save it. Only a minute later it could have been two but Gareth Evans shot was well wide then two minutes later Gareth had another shot this time going inches wide of the post.

The home side made a sub taking a defender of and replacing him with a striker who most Macc fans will remember - Spencer Weir-Daley who was on loan with the Silkmen this time last year.

The game opened up after the goal and Danny Thomas somehow missed from six yards out even after doing all the hard work on the left hand side, out jumping a County player leaving him clear inside the area but in the end he couldn't keep his shot down. The home side almost scored but the ball was cleared of the line by Carl Regan, the home side came again at the Silkmen goal when a ball into the area by Richard Butcher was knocked down towards the feet of Krystian Pearce but luckily for the Silkmen Tommy Lee was quick off his line and jumped onto the ball just as Pearce was about to shoot.

The Silkmen ran down the clock trying to hold the ball in the corner then came the board saying 3 long minutes which would give the home side one last chance and they almost took it after a cross from Myles Weston found the head of Spencer Weir-Daley but the former Silkmen loanee headed wide. At that point you could tell it would be Macclesfield's day and it was a minute later when the referee blew the final whistle sending 223 Macclesfield Town fans home dancing with joy.
