The Silkmen came away from their visit to Adams park with nothing, after two
stunning set pieces, by Tommy Doherty and Russell Martin and a long range
shot by Matt Bloomfield.
It was the visitors that had the first attempt on goal after John Miles
collected the ball on the left, he cut inside but his cross was cleared away
from danger. It took the home side 8 minutes before their first shot at goal
but Matt Bloomfield's shot didn't trouble Tommy Lee.
Only minutes later the game came to an unfortunate halt, when Colin Health was
put though one on one with Ricardo Batista, with both players rushing for
the ball they collided and onto the ground, with both playing looking in
pain the game was stopped for over 6 minutes while both players were taken off
the field bystretcher and into waiting ambulances. The game went flat
after the injuries and with both teams not troubling ether keeper.
Then in the 40minute the home side broke the dead lock, after the ref had
deemed John Murphy to have fouled Wycombe's on loan midfielder Anthony Grant
just outside the box. With a five man wall it look like Lee had it covered
but Tommy Doherty fired home the free kick into the top right hand corner of
the net giving Tommy no chance.
With four added minutes given due to the stoppage it was the home side that
look like adding to their lead, after a mix up in the Silkmen back line the
ball fell to Scott McGleish whose shot was well saved byTommy Lee.
Into the second half and with only five minutes played the home side lead
was doubled, after Tommy Mooney looked to have fallen after losing the ball
but the ref blew for a free kick. Again a strong looking wall was built but
after a short lay-off to Russell Martin, the wall just moved and his shot flew
past everyone. Tommy Lee could only get one hand to ball but it wasn't
enough to keep it out. 2-0
Both teams made a sub after the goal with Alan Navarro been taking off for
Matthew Tipton. The Silkmen's best chance of the game so far fell to Kevin
McIntyre but his free kick flew over the Sub keeper's cross bar. Soon after
the home side added the third and final goal after good work from Tommy
Mooney the ball went to Matt Bloomfield who had all the time and space to
smash the ball from just outside the box. The Silkmen defence just seemed to
back off and off.
The Silkmen finally make the home side keeper work after a corner from the
right was headed goalwards but was saved well by Jamie Young, the rebound
shot was saved again by Young and was cleared for another corner. From the
resulting corner the ball found the head of Danny Swailes but was again
saved by Young who this time tipped the ball over the bar.
The game got worse for the Silkmen after Jordan Hadfield was sent off after
a late tackle, it was his second booking of the game and so meant a red.
Overall not a great display and the staff and players need to redouble their efforts this week in preparation for the visit of Shrewsbury to the Moss Rose.
