A typically cool Kevin McIntyre penalty and a spectacular overhead kick by Colin Heath gave the Silkmen their second consecutive home win.
Gary Jones pulled one back for the Mariners, who dramatically improved after the interval, but Macc held on for three valuable points.
Paul Ince fielded the same side that narrowly lost at Hartlepool on Tuesday and the Silkmen attacked from the first whistle against a Grimsby side who had won the last four on the bounce.
Macc were awarded a penalty before the visitors had really touched the ball when Justin Whittle was judged to have pulled John Murphy's shirt in the box after a McIntyre free kick was hoisted into the box.
Penalty king Kev stepped up and put the ball into the top left corner after just five minutes to bag his ninth of the season.

McIntyre - Deadly from 12 yards again |
The first ten minutes were predominantly played in Grimsby's half, with Bullock, Miles and Heath all looking good with the ball at their feet and making good runs out wide.
Macc had to be wary of getting caught on the break and Ciaran Toner could have punished them when he was found in a shooting position on the edge of the box. However, he fired over the bar and also over the Star Lane End with his side's first effort on goal.
Danny North had the ball in the net for the Mariners on 19 minutes after he emphatically smashed past Tommy Lee from 20 yards, but he was flagged offside.
A spectacular goal was to count a minute later though, although it was to come at the other end. Carl Regan's ball into the box was flicked on by Murphy and Heath's acrobatic overhead kick caught keeper Phil Barnes off guard and flew past him at the near post.
Heath almost turned provider six minutes later when he collected Martin Bullock's precise pass out on the right and put in a low cross which was met at the near post by Whittle who just got there ahead of Murphy to clear behind.
From the resulting corner skipper Dave Morley flashed a diving header just wide of the near post as it looked like Macc would add to their lead.
Again the visitors almost caught the Silkmen out on the break and from a corner they countered with two against one. North wasted the chance by taking too long to play Peter Bore through and by the time he did the angle was too narrow and he dragged his shot wide.
The final act of the first period was a Grimsby corner which was twice poorly cleared although fortunately didn't fall to a Mariner in the box and was eventually put into touch.
Macc went in ahead at the break and looked fairly comfortable apart from the occasional break from the visitors. However, the Mariners must have put something in their half time fish as they came out fired up in the second half looking like a different side.
The visitors swapped John McDermott for the disappointing Matt Bloomer at half time, their second sub of the game after Gary Jones had earlier replaced Gary Croft after just 24 minutes.
North found himself in a good position again minutes after the re-start but Nick Fenton's pass was just too long and Lee collected.
Fenton had a chance for himself on 55 minutes as he hit a good shot on the turn which Lee had to get down to save - that being the visitors' first shot on target.
A surging 50 yard run from Tom Newey almost created something, but his cross fell behind everyone waiting in the box. It was still poorly cleared though and Swailes had to head another cross behind under pressure at the far post.
Whittle was booked when he brought Murphy down on the halfway line and then Matthew Tipton was introduced for a tired looking Heath who had a brilliant first half.
He could have scored just seconds after joining the action when he was found in all kinds of space in the box, but as he turned to shoot he was well closed down and the chance was lost.
A poor Jordan Hadfield tackle by the home dugout was penalised with a booking as he joined his midfield partner Alan Navarro in the book after he earlier saw yellow for a similar offence.
With the second half a totally different game to the first, Macc had trouble keeping hold of the ball and only really threatened on the counter. Hadfield led one of these breaks on 68 minutes, but he passed out to Navarro on the right when Tipton was the best option overlapping unmarked on the other side.
Tipton had another golden chance two minutes later after a fantastic Bullock run down the left. The ex-Barnsley man cut the ball back to Tippy and his powerful effort was well saved by the legs of Barnes.

Tipton - The shaved head look was back and he could have added a third after coming on for Heath |
Grimsby got back into the game with just over a quarter of an hour left, courtesy of substitute Jones. James Hunt's cross from the left was missed by Swailes, leaving the former Tranmere striker the simple task of finishing from a few yards out. The error was harsh on Swailes though as he had been a commanding presence throughout and was a tower of strength in the air all match.
Macc seemed to be forced even further back after the goal and Grimsby had numerous balls into the box which were just missed or blocked as it seemed inevitable that they would equalise at some stage.
Bore skipped through three challenges on the halfway line before slipping North through, who again was pulled back for offside.
Robbie Doyle made his debut when he came on for Miles with seven minutes remaining and provided some fresh legs to hold the ball up in the final third.
Time began to run out for the visitors and they were given a good set-piece chance with four minutes to go when McIntyre hacked Bore down. McIntyre was booked but Macc weren't punished any further as Newey's free kick sailed over everyone and straight out of play.
A long free kick was headed up in the air in the last minute and Bore attempted to copy Heath's overhead kick effort from roughly the same place, but put his well wide.
Macc took the ball into the corners for the four minutes of injury time and could even have grabbed a third when Murphy saw his effort desperately blocked and Doyle mis-hit the rebound well wide.
The final whistle blew to cheers from the home crowd and the three points takes Macc up another place in the League Two table at Accrington's expense, with results elsewhere going fairly well.
A tough away day at play-off hopefuls Wycombe comes next but if the Silkmen play like the first half today then they can defnitely get something from the game.
