The Silkmen made the journey to Edgar Street for the first time, still
looking for that first win of the season.

The Silkmen had put in some good displays away from home this season and
the fans travelled hoping for more of the same, but sadly it wasn't going
to be.

Just after the game started the weather changed and down came the rain,
making for a very dull first half, even though the Silkmen could have
taken the lead less than a minute in after a foul on Matthew Tipton on the
edge of the box. The resulting free kick was taken by McIntyre and looked to be
curling in the bottom corner till Hereford keeper Wayne Brown tips the ball
round the post.

Neither side were able to gain control of the game and the half left
very little to talk about, with both teams only really having a couple of
chances to score.  It was the Home side that came closest after Stuart Fleetwood
was put though on goal by a pass from Dean Beckwith, but luckily for the
Silkmen, 'keeper Tommy Lee read the danger and saved well with his feet.

Up the other end a shot/cross by Tipton looped off a defender and looked
like getting the better of Brown but he was able to tip it round post. The
half was bought to an end soon after with both teams needing to step it up
a gear if they wanted to win it.

Into second half and even the sun came out which seemed to lighten the
game up somewhat.  It was the home side that started the second half the brighter with good
work down the flanks, soon after they won two quick corners but couldn't make them count. The Silkmen were unable to get a hold of the ball.

The Silkmen were awarded a free kick on the edge of the box and the
kick was taken by Tipton, his shot yet again was tipped round the post by Brown
and out for a corner which came to nothing.

The home side had a chance from the resulting goal kick after a though
ball by Alan Connell found Stuart Fleetwood who again was though on goal but
again Tommy Lee saved well with his feet. Then the Silkmen had a chance
to score when a quick one two between Bullock and Tipton, just inside the box
lead to a low cross which was cleared by Dean Beckwith just before the
oncoming Regan.

One minute after the Regan chance the home side scored the only goal of
the game, with a great run down the left wing the ball was played back to
Alan Connell who turned Danny Swailes and shot low into the corner of the
net from 18 yards out, he quick turn left the diving Lee with no chance.

Straight after the restart Horton made a sub, taking off Jimmy McNulty
and bringing on Colin Heath but really it was to late for the sub to make
an inpact on the game and in the 90th minute the second sub came with
Bullock heading straight down the tunnel and John Miles coming on.

Soon after the sub the final whistle blow leaving the Silkmen 7 points
adrift at the foot of the table. I felt sorry for, and all credit must go to the 143 fans which made
the journey and who sung for the whole 90 minutes.
